Yeah, now that I'm *finally* back to kegging, I might give this a try just for the hell of it. I've never cared that much about a little haze, but taste is also partly related to expectation which comes from presentation, so a clearer, brighter beer might be nice.

thanks for the tips. My house is hotter than hell on the second story, but If I were to brew in the summer I probably buy a used refrigerator, if it is possible to brew in a refrigerator . Take care, I'm sicker than hell from this flu going around. I don't know, it'll be pretty cramped to fit your ...

The milk stout still isn't fully carbonated, but he's going to fill two bottles once it does (another day or two) for the competition.

Thanks, everyone. I'll be sure to refer to this tonight when we're filling. It looks like my brother-in-law already force carbonated the milk stout, so we don't need to worry about sugar (which is good, because once we drop it off at Alesmith, we have no control over whether it goes into their fridg...

Bottling from a keg -- w/o counterpressure filler

Alright folks, I've got a couple of beers in kegs that need to be bottled before competition. I don't have a counterpressure filler, so I'm wondering how to do this... One is already cold and carbonated, the other is warm and hasn't carbonated yet. For the cold/carbonated one, I'm going to use the C...

Post your recipe, first and foremost. Then, if you have a hydrometer, post your OG reading, and take a current reading to see where you're at. If you don't have a hydrometer, go buy one and then test the current gravity. Between that and your recipe, we'll have a decent idea of whether you're anywhe...

Brewski,

Your yeast was fine. When they say it should be "actively" foaming, they're mainly saying that the yeast has to be proven viable and not dead. Because your yeast started foaming when you added warm water and sugar, it's definitely viable.

Your fermentation will be just fine.

Anyone ever try a watermelon wheat? I have heard of a watermelon wit and even tasted whatever it was called. However you did not hear from me that the watermelon flavor came from Jolly Rancher candy. Nope, you didn't hear that from me. I never said it. Just how fermentable is a Jolly Rancher...

Anyone ever try a watermelon wheat? I did the raspberry wheat last spring, and although I liked it, I want to try something a little different this spring. I'd like to have a nice summer easy-drinker, and watermelon just seems like it might work.

I did a raspberry wheat last year that turned out pretty good. I used about 2/3 of a 49 oz can of Oregon Fruit Products Raspberry Puree. The can is good because it's seedless and it's sterile. You can get a list of what they offer here (this is the per-box pricing, not per-can): http://www.oregonfru...

I seem to remember that the Sam Adams Longshot from last year's comp had a blueberry wheat from one of the workers at Sam Adams. It was too sweet for my palate but was based on a wheat beer. Last year was a Boysenberry Wheat, I believe. The employee winner this year was a Grape Ale... They had a Ry...
