Your system is SWEET Tim! You can tell Rezzin isn't in manufacturing or supply chain! JIT is Just In Time and you couldn't get much more just in time as Pat's timely arrival (with about fifteen minutes left in the boil!!). That constant recirculation feature is priceless! Cheers! It's that obvious ...

I'd make a starter. If it doesn't turn out well you can pitch the Safale 56. I just checked the calculator on MrMalty.com and if I did things right, a month old yeast slurry is only 50% viable. You would need to pitch about a cup and a half of slurry to get enough yeast to properly ferment that beer...

I use an IC and a pump and I whirlpool. I get a nice big pile of hops and break in the center of my kettle and that seems to help. Has Brahn pointed out, some break material is beneficial so don't be overly concerned. The only time I remove break is if I'm brewing a delicate lager AND I remember to...

So I'm assuming you use an IC as well? If using an IC, I wonder if the screen mesh is just simply larger than what comes with the hopstopper? Yeah, a little cold break won't bother me but I'd like to be able to throw everything into the boil and transfer to my carboy with minimal hop/break material....

filtering cold break

I've searched but I can't seem to find anything out there so I figured I try here. I use an IC to chill my wort and to date, I've always just transfered whatever was in the kettle into the carboy - hops, cold break, and all. I bought a Hopstopper a while back but it didn't help and so I thought it w...

I own the Barley Crusher
I'm happy with the Barley Crusher
I'd like it chromed out with a racing stripe.

Welcome to the board Shawn! Zymurguy is right off the 22 and Valley View and is the closest shop in OC. BrianC is a club member and the owner of this new brew shop and he is a very nice guy with great prices. BrewCommune members receive a 10% discount as well. There are a lot of excellent brewers in...

dirty lines can contribute all kinds of funk. Maybe it wasn't exactely diacetyl you were tasting? it was definitely botterscotch-ish in the aroma and flavor. I brought it over to Lyns to sample and he confirmed. The cali common was followed by a pale ale which didn't exhibit any of those flavors bu...

Thanks for the reassurance. So I'm trying to figure out how I picked up the diacetyl flavor AFTER it was kegged. The flavor was non-existent in secondary and overly distracting after it was kegged. Could dirty lines cause that flavor? I thought it was a by product of fermentation. I know for a fact ...

There was a post about this a while back (too bad it's gone) but I'll ask again since I forgot. I did a Cali Common a while back that took a while to start (as opposed to ale yeast) and I noticed the same thing with this one. I used a 2L starter which I made about a week ago, and after decanting pit...

Well the brew day is over. About 5 hours almost from start to finish. A few things to mention. * When using the hop bag, I had to use a few marbles to help keep the bag down. * It was a PITA to get my IC in there with the bag. * My efficiency was slightly higher today than it normally is. I normally...

Well, I'm in the middle of my mash right now and I realized I'm missing 2 things. 1. Ice 2. Propane My sister-in-law's boyfriend conveniently forgot to mention he used my propane tank when he deep fried the turkey on Christmas. Fortunately, Lyn was around to save the day with a spare tank and a nice...
