Re: Storing half empty kegs for a while .. over carbing issu

I'll put out an idea... When you raise the temperature of the closed keg the pressure of the CO2 in the head space will rise. This higher pressure will allow more CO2 to absorb in the beer. Of course, warmer liquid holds less CO2 as the same pressure. I expect the effect has mostly to do with how em...

Re: Brewer's Friend

Are you still using Brewers Friend? I grabbed a copy of the free version for iPad. It looks promising. I don't see inventory or shopping list features.

Re: Float Switches

My 1550 came with 2 similar to the electrical ones. One goes with the sparge ring to keep the MT topped off for fly sparging. The other is near the bottom of the HLT. It turns off the gas valve unless there is a couple inches of water in the HLT. Derrin and I have spoken lots about ways to measure t...

Leaking false bottom

The false bottom/mash screen on my 1550 has always leaked more then I would like. I was getting by with a poorly rigged stainless braided hose under the screen. I had tried to use a hose cut length wise as a gasket. I just tried a length of silicone tube laid on the screen in the corner a tiny bit l...

Re: Sous vide

I thought about it. I did a limited test. I used a Ranco controller to run an electric skillet full of water. It was limited in that I was trying to pasteurize an egg without cooking it and no pump was used. It seemed to work. I just use a raw egg for making mayo now. I was going to use a hot plate ...

Congrats on being a 1%er. When the IEB screwed up my results for their competition they might as well have said fuck off. At least the PAC cup organizers own their mistakes.

Re: Picobrew Zymatic

I think 208 is probably sufficient, water boils at 203 in Denver and they seem to be able to make good beer there I was wondering if 208 would be OK. Also, how good will the device be at maintaining 208 in Denver without boiling? Unless that shiny microwave looking thing is a pressure vessel too I ...

Re: Water - benefit and costs of RO

I have been going to do the mix in RO water thing to but when I stopped brewing for 1.5 years lots of stuff never got tested. I have a long unused RO unit you can borrow. If you are interested I can inspect it and test it a bit here. It is an under the sink model and you would have to collect for da...

Racer 5

Jed, a friend from work whom some of you met at the last meeting, was looking to brew an IPA along the lines of Racer 5. Anyone care to share a good clone recipe? You know I don't have any IPA recipes.

Oktoberfest ale

I used BMBs Oktoberfest recipe for an Oktoberfest ale. The beer smith estimated OG was 1.055. I hit 1.054. I fermented with WLP029. The FG ended up at nearly 1.010 a bit low with estimated FG of 1.014. It seems to still have some good malty Oktoberfest flavor. Can't wait to see how it reads cold and...

I put in sweet stout, chocolate stout, and a sweet, still, sack mead. Nothing else ready yet.
