Re: Simple pale ale...
I've used safale 04 66-70f and I like the taste I get from it. Oceric referred to my brown ale as "how the ahp brown ale recipe is supposed to taste"
Re: dipa
I was planning 4 oz for about a week. No temp control so whatever the water bath is. Usually 70. I was going all citrusy hops And didn't want to throw a weird Wrench in it
Re: dipa
Well I burned through most of my old hops. Came up short on the recipe. Switched flavor hops to simcoe. Now I have only one ounce of simvoe left foe dryhop and that's it. (No agave I chickened out.) What do I need foe some serious citrusy aroma?

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
that's only true of the first round. The second round will have a modified version of a bjcp scoresheet, with overall impression weighted heavily. I gotta admit I'm making this up as I go. This first time is a learning experience for me. I don't know what I'm doing and Dan is helping out a lot with ...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
And BTW I do think baseball sucks and I do have a better idea for a sport  ok i just re read my original post. i wrote it after finalizing plans with ootp, and having a few, and being excited, and then trying to shamelessly self promote a la donald trump. did you really take all that seriously?...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
I will admit that my opinion has changed during this conversation. The system is working great for many people. I should more accurately state that I believe there is a large segment of the brewing community that is under served by it however. And I think I can feed that niche with something along t...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
I didn't see it as an attack as much as energetic defense of your own philosophies. And I wasn't so much attacking bjcp so much as stating that it doesn't fit my philosophy at all. Of course if your beer tastes like band aid or cat pee You made a mistake and sometimes it takes a trained palatte to p...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
In yet another analogy, you can't go enter a karate competition after less than a year of training, get your ass handed to you and call bullsh*t on their rules. Their rules and point system are there for a reason and not every karate school trains the same and agree about it but they still enter an...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
You see, when I started doing this, brewing perfectly classic styles was never even remotely a goal. You can buy those. My goal was to create a new and unique flavor that no one ever attempted and make it tasty. Bjcp judges are well trained and dedicated to the culture, but that style of comp can on...

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition
I agree. Its refreshing to have a disagreement worked out and mulled over rather than just disappear. What I did was mix up my own opinions about traditional competitions with my explanation of what this is. Its not the same thing aall. When I first heard the way bjcp comps work, my first thought wa...
