Newport Beach Brewing Company is hosting a homebrew competition! The winner of this competition will be invited to join Brewmaster Brandon Hoag in brewing a full commercial-scale batch of their recipe on our 15 barrel brewing system! The deadline for submitting entries (in person) at NBBC will be Friday, April 27, with the official judging taking place in early May (offical announcement of winners tentatively scheduled for 6:00 PM on Saturday, May 19 at NBBC). If interested, please FULLY review all details below in their entirety.

Here are the details:

-Due to commercial pricing and availability of ingredients, recipes are limited to only using WLP001 (California Ale) or equivalent yeast strain, and cannot utilize hops that are difficult to reasonably acquire on a commercial scale, such as Galaxy or Nelson Sauvin. Only BJCP styles that can accommodate this will be allowed to enter (example: no lagers, Belgians, etc.). NO wood or barrel aged beers, or sour beers of any kind, will be allowed to enter. NO mead or cider accepted. NBBC reserves the right to adjust recipes and ingredients as needed to reasonably accommodate brewing on a commercial scale.

-The entire competition will be judged as "best in show", rather than against other beers in the same style/category.

-Judging will be guided by appropriateness to style, technical proficiency, intangibles, and overall impression of judges. Here is a link to the BJCP Style Guidelines: https://www.bjcp.org/docs/2015_Guidelines_Beer.pdf

-The winner will brew a full scale batch of his or her homebrew recipe on NBBC's 15 BBL system, and NBBC reserves the right to hold the recipe for potential future commercial use. Winner will also receive an official certificate, as well as 2 full kegs (31 gallons total) of the beer once it is finished. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place in the competition.

-Limit 2 entries per person.

-Each beer entry must include 3 separate bottles (no matter the size).

-Each beer entered must include a fully completed Entry/Recipe Form (link: https://www.bjcp.org/docs/SCP_EntryRecipe.pdf).

-Each bottle submitted must have an attached Bottle Identification Form (link: https://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_BottleID.pdf). Again, to EACH bottle.

-Bring properly labeled bottles and completed Entry/Recipe Forms in to NBBC during operational business hours by Friday, 04/27/18.

We are beyond excited for this opportunity to collaborate with the local homebrewing community!! If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, or e-mail our Brewmaster directly at: brandon@nbbrewco.com. Cheers!

FWIW: They were recently bought out by owners of several other long-time peninsula service establishment owners. Their goal is to breathe some new life into the place via making some much needed and neglected repairs and then get back to focusing on brewing great beer there. Sounds like they're looking for some much needed buzz!
