Fire proofing-Heat Shielding?

Post by backyard brewer »

What would be a good material to use for heat/fire proofing? I was thinking about ceramic tile, but if it hasn't been kilned at a high enough temperature it can pop or explode: Not good! I'd like to be able to minimize heat transfer to the stand. I've seen fiber washers used on BBQ's to prevent heat transfer to things like handles and hinges, but they usually don't work real well. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a sheet good that can be used like that. I'd like to use it to stand-off my heat shields from my stand.

I have heard asbestos is good too, but can't seem to find any of that.

Their 'where to buy' only seems to be for Canada...

I think I have some Hardibacker left, maybe I'll try playing with that a little.

Oh yeah! I didn't even think of that and I knew about it. Good call.
