Beer tasting #3, Sept 10

Post by ctninh »

We are going over lagers and will have an emphasis on the off-flavor DMS. Hope this beer style helps with the CA heat. As always, everyone is invited to participate or just follow along. I hope this will increase everyone’s knowledge on beer, styles, sensory, and brewing.

Date: Sept 10 (Thurs). I am open to changing this if more people can be involved. Please reply if other days are better during that week.

Meeting link will be posted later.

Beers - Listed below are the ones in the BJCP guidelines and some recent GABF/WBC winners. If things get though on finding a beer, then a beer of that style is god enough. Again, bring a capper/sealer if you do not plan on drinking all 4 beers.

1A/1B, American Light Lager/American Lager: Rolling Rock extra pale, Bud Light, Coors Light, Keystone Light, Miller Lite, Old Milwaukee Light, Budweiser, Coors Original, Miller High Life, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Special Export
Note: I recommend Rolling Rock since it is known for DMS.

2B, International Amber Lager: Brooklyn Lager, Dos Equis Amber, Yuengling Lager, Schell's Oktoberfest

3B, Czech Premium Pale Lager: Pilsner Urquell, Bernard Sváteční ležák, Gambrinus
Premium, Kout na Šumavě Koutská 12°, Pivovar Jihlava Ježek 11°, Primátor Premium, Únětická 12°

6A, Marzen: Paulaner Oktoberfest, Sudwerks Marzen, Buergerliches Ur-Saalfelder, Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest, Weltenburg Kloster Anno 1050

I will also post the beer I got if people have decision fatigue.

P.S.: I am also talking about aging beers in the next online meeting. I suggest reading that post (will be up later) and buying all the beer at once, assuming you aren't using homebrew for the experiment.
