Club Meeting - Tuesday Mar. 18, 7PM at Out of the Park Pizza

Post by JonW »

The March 2014 meeting will be held at Out of the Park Pizza (OOTPP) on Tuesday March 18th.
OOTPP has excellent food and a great beer selection. Besides that, they're a great host!

Meetings are open to all Brewcommune forum members (paid and non-paid). If you are new to Brewcommune, please come out and introduce yourself. If you haven't been in a while, please come back.

We will be continuing our discussions of the SoCal Homebrew Festival (in May) as well as getting our first style presentation from Brad Warbiany. (Style to be announced later).

Pending my physical presence in the state of CA, of course!

That said, I have nothing on the schedule now except a blood donation that day, so I might be a cheap date...

How about a presentation on American Barleywines?
;)

Won't be able to make this one (unless I show up really late). That is the first week of the new quarter at school and I don't think I would make a very good first impression on my students if I failed to show up.

I'll be bringing some printouts of these links to the meeting, but here is some historical information on Gose:

Sorry for the delay, here are the meeting notes.

Brewcommune Meeting Notes
Meeting notes from March 18, 2013 at Out of the Park Pizza

Discussed

Club is still heading to Casitas, rangers will be looking to enforce curfew and ensure there aren’t drunks running around.

SCHF reps talking about Casitias, with there being too many issues going into the event and it was best to cancel it. Unknown about next years event but they are pretty sure it will be back at Casitas. There are a lot of folks working on correcting the law and it’s language.

Barrel-aged beer for the club. A few styles were thrown around and a forum post should be going up for discussion and voting.

Club sour status update. Sample taken a few weeks ago, still 6 months left until it will be ready to keg.

Talk about an updated club shirt, possibly a Dickies Work shirt. Also talked about locations for the logo, wording, etc.

Style Presentation

Brad did a style presentation on Gose. The beers passed around as style guidelines were:

Ritterguts Gose

Cascade Summer Gose

Homebrews Shared

Forgive me if I left anyone off. All beers shared were quite good, and if I didn’t hear it announced I may have missed it. Here are beers that were passed around:

Don - Backhouse blonde

Don - Belgian golden strong (Club)

Don - Hemp Ale

Dan and Tim - Winterfest winter warmer

Randy - Honey wheat randy

Chris - German kolsch chris l

Jon - English mild jon w

Scott - Red wine barrel aged baltic porter with vanilla

Sam and Brian Munich helles

Tim - Pale ale

Dan and Mike Mosaic hop IPA

Tony - dark amertican lager

Tony - Robust porter

I thought they said the opposite? That they were looking for other venues because Ranger Sally hates us and the Ventura County ABC aren't big fans of us either?
Style Presentation

Brad did a style presentation on lagers. The beers passed around as style guidelines were:

Ritterguts Gose

Cascade Summer Gose
I did a style presentation on Gose, not on lagers.

And there weren’t even any Sours being served. :)

Yeah when they were talking about SCHF they said this year was (obviously) out, and next year was unsure as the law would have to change in order for it to take place. They seem to prefer Casitas and would like to go back.

My bad on the style....it's been a LONG week....
