March's Brew Commune Meeting will be Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 @ Oggi's in Tustin. 7PM

Reminder: Only bring homebrew, to keep us in good graces with the management there.

Tuesday night is usually $2/pint draft beer night after 8pm. Not sure if that includes the Left Coast brews, but sure hope so!

Also, Oggis' has a wide ranging menu with lots of affordable items.. If you can, please try some of their delicious pizza or order up a custom calzone! Buying their food will keep them excited about hosting us again in the future....

Does the meeting start at 7pm or 8pm when the $2 pints are available???

7PM is the start time.. If we ask nice .. they may just bring us the pints early, and ring them up later

I will be speaking on hybrid beers, BJCP categories 6 and 7. If anyone has any example of these styles, please bring some so we can taste and discuss. I will be bringing a Kolsch (maybe two examples) and a California Common. We can also try Oggi's California Gold to see if it fits in the Cream Ale category.

Speaking of mead, I found I still had a large bottle of a metheglin I made almost 2 years ago. I took a sample, and it was pretty decent ... but I'm a real amateur at the mead thing.

I'll bring it to share, and get some feedback. It is flavored with ginger & oranges.... I can't seem to find my recipe notes from back then... will hunt around some more...

In an effort to save trees (and my printer cartridge) I am only bringing a short handout tonight for the style presentation. I have uploaded a couple of nice articles on Kolsch and California Common to Google Docs for your reading pleasure.

6 new faces, lots of good beer and a bunch of regulars...I'd say the March meeting was a success.

Here's the recipe for the Amber that I brought, except I subbed Columbus and Summit for the Amarillo and Hallertauer. I also forgot yeast nutrient and the beer finished at 1.016 this time. I actually think it was better with the Amarillo and Hallertaur.

Has anyone else who brought beer posted their recipes?
