AFC 2009

Post by BrewMasterBrad »

Just got this email. This is a big comp with nice ribbons. It's also a good one to judge if you're interested.
Judges and Homebrewers,

QUAFF's 18th annual America's Finest City Homebrew Competition on
February 20-21, 2009, San Diego, CA; an AHA/BJCP sanctioned event.
The competition's web page is http://www.quaff.org/afc_page/afc1.htm ;
it has active links to enter beers and to register to judge or
steward. Send beer entries to Alesmith Brewing Co, 9368 Cabot Drive,
San Diego, CA 92126, with a $6 fee per entry. Beer entries and
judge/steward registrations must be received by Friday, February 13.
The competition will be held at St Dunstan's Church, 6556 Park Ridge
Blvd, San Diego, CA 92120. More detailed information is available on
the web page.

Judges and stewards: how about a beautiful weekend in San Diego in
February? Brewers: get expert judge reaction for your beers before
AHA first round in April.

For questions, contact Judge Coordinator Mary Anne Bixby at
mabixby_2000@yahoo.com, 619-440-4627, or me at jim.mosteller@cox.net or 619-222-2514.

Those guys run a tight comp and take care of their judges/stewards very well. Be warned! The competition is usually very steep with a lot of 20 year guys in that club that reeeaaaaalllly know what they are doing.

Anybody signing up to judge this year?

Cheers!

I am entering four beers and I signed up to judge on Saturday.

Also, I will be making a run down to Alesmith to drop off my entries if anyone wants me to take their entries with me. I believe the deadline is Feb. 13, so it will sometime that week.

I may take you up on that Brad ... I think I'll enter a couple my own self.

That would be excellent. I hope to enter what I got, prolly 3-5 beers. Can I give them to you at the club meeting?

That will work. I should have enough fridge space to keep them all cold until I make the delivery.

Wow, I need to brew something so I can enter this... I placed 2nd with my Rye Pale Ale last year, but I don't have a damn thing worth submitting that's actually brewed right now.

Well done Brad. How many points you need to become certified?

I got a pretty good AAA kegged up that might mature enough in time to enter this one. Still a little too yeast bitey at the moment (which I did not expect from S-05, but I also skipped the secondary). That dunkelweizen I brewed last weekend should be ready to go shortly after fermentation subsides. Interested to see how it turns out given it was my first time brewing the style, but hopefully it will be worthy.

Cheers!

I believe I have two points right now. I need five to get to the certified level.

I will be driving to Alesmith on Friday to deliver entries. I have jward's entries and dhempy has shipped his already. Anyone else going to enter? I will be in the OC on Thursday afternoon right by the Big A if anyone wants to meet up and give me your entries.

Fedex delivered my three entries yesterday.

I didn't see anything on the Quaff site about results ... it did look like they had the entry / volunteer part shut off though.

QUAFF's regular club meeting is tonight. Maybe they will post the results after that.
