Wanted: Propane Burner

The stove is just not cutting it -- moving my brew kettle outside. Anybody have a used turkey-fryer style burner available for sale? Ideal would be a high-pressure burner with legs, like they sell at Northern Brewer, with a hookup for natural gas outlet.

Odds are really good you'll have to make that. I've never seen a commercial turkey cooker that runs on NG since they are produced for the masses and the masses have no business tapping into a NG line. I've also noticed that they seem to be migrating to these electric "oil-less" ones as well which won't bode well for cheap cookers for brewers. Might just be the season though.

It is possible to drill out the orifice on a standard propane ring burner to get it to burn for NG but it's better to just buy one made for NG.

How big of a kettle are you going to put on it?

I wish. The liability of literally playing with fire scares the shit out of me.

Besides that, I couldn't touch the price of an off-the-shelf turkey fryer stand. Those stainless steel ones I had bought from Sam's Club some years back for about $85 probably had $50 worth of material just for the stand at my cost today!

OK, so a bigger one. Sam's Club used to carry a great all SS turkey fryer kit. If you can get that, it'll be propane but you'll be golden. A 15G kettle fits on it just fine.

Althought a bit more $$$, a high-pressure burner like this may be better for the 60 qt. boil keetle you have.


Although it comes with a propane tank connector, it does have attachable legs which raise the burner height to 23" from 11". And at 60,000 BTU, it can really heat up large volumes fast!

I really like mine. Eventually, I will migrate it to a NG connection tho'....
