Re: CO2 lifespan

Somebody was falling asleep in chemistry class it would appear. CO2 is a stable, electrically nuetral molecule that in and of itself can not be contaminated. It is now and always will be CO2 unless converted though some type of catalysis or biological reaction such as photsysthesis. You have...

Re: CO2 lifespan

I think I have a few leaky poppits in my keg collection that has led me to not leave the gas on all the time. It has made a big difference in the refill frequency. I must admit that I also had an unfortunate incident (with my first keg actually) where the cobra tap got pinched in the door gasket dis...

Re: CO2 lifespan

I can typically get through four kegs (pushing sanitizer, carbonating, dispensing) on a 5# tank. One thing I do differently from the others here is that I do not leave the tank open for any duration. I open the tank once or twice a day while carbonating at about 30# until I get the proper level of c...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

The recipe looks pretty good. I would check with your grain source if the Munich is actually 20L' or if it is 10L' which I have found is more commonly available. If it is the lighter version bump up your Munich by another pound or so to really build a sturdy malt backbone to balance out the hops (th...

Re: Sanitizer of choice?

Used Iodophor almost exclusively for sanitizing until this year. Now I am a Star San convert not only because it does not stain everything in comes into contact with but also because when it breaks down the by-products are yeast positive once the PH rises above 3.5 (which it does almost immediately ...

Re: New here - join he club?

I would imagine that The Bruery Provisions could facilitate group grain buys in a similar fashion as Zymurguy did when the time is right. The most grain we ever picked up in a single purchase was 2000 lbs (including a 1000# super sack of 2-row). The problem is that one just never knows when somebody...

Re: Extract Specialty Grains, steep and store?

Jon - this hobby takes a lot of time and patience. While you seem long on time (do you actually sleep at night?) you likewise seem short on patience and keep looking for shortcuts. Look here, they have been making beer for thousands of years. The methods in use by todays brewers are tried and true b...

John - for Pete's sake it's been three years since I did that style! I was actually leaning towards Cat 10 anyway. We'll have to wait and see what I come up with (even I will be surprised!)...
