Dry Yeast
It's been brough to my attention that instead of making my insane starter, I could have just grabbed a couple of packs of dry yeast and used them. I know a lot of positives, more cells, no starter, more are alive, etc. So why aren't more people using them? What are the positives, and more importantl...

Re: Meet Kate the Great
Well, if im going to give the honest truth, the vials were a tad old. I had bought them for other purposes that never ended up happening. The viability according to MrMalty equals about 1.5 fresh vials. I know I could have been more value conscious, but such is life, I'll build a nice huge starter a...

Nice, didn't know you did one, will be sure to read through your post. How was the blowoff situation with your ferment?

Re: Meet Kate the Great
Yea, I assumed a low eff, i used 60% , and i will sparge and boil longer if need be. I could have been more specific, but i used 3 vials to start my starter on sunday and will step up two more times, and i hope to have 2L of thick slurry volume, not overall volume. 21 days was a number thrown out by...

Meet Kate the Great
In college my roommates and I would spend 5 hours ouside in the NorthEast cold for this beer. Big, thick, super rare and highly unavailable unless you stand in line or give up your first born. But I figured I would go huge on my first try or going all-grain wasn't worth it. The guys at the brewery a...

Re: Oh, yeah. It's keezer time.
I tried the non-controller route with moderate success. I was able to get it to hit 40 or never be on (I got one of the GE 7cu. ft they talk about at the end of the thread) I wanted it at 50, so I ended up getting a Ranco, but I think it's worth it to take about a week and see if you can do it on th...

So I'm gonna go all grain
The girlfriend got me a nice propane burner for xmas, and after my last batch, it has inspired me to go AG. I have an 8 gal kettle, so all I really need is a mash tun. I'm wondering what you all think of the big round coolers like the MoreBeer ones. How long do they last? How much grain do they hold...

I believe it is in-store at the Riverside location. You can't get the discount online.

Kegerator needs regulators
Hey all, so i grabbed a 7cu ft chest freezer and a ranco controller, and now my kegerator is going great. The only problem now is that i only have one regulator for my co2 tank. The fridge can fit 4 cornies, so this would be an issue. I'm wondering what people think is a good setup given that i will...

Re: what went wrong with my stout?
I got all the stuff about diastatic power, I just didn't know it was the difference between mashing and steeping. Little bit of an OT question, but why would you steep?

Re: what went wrong with my stout?
Could you point me to a good definition of steeped vs mashed? I think I may have made this problem with my stout as well.

Send me a pm when you get rid of that burner, I am quite highly interested, cause if not, still not sure what solution I am looking at.

Re: Burner needs
Chris read my mind. My girlfriend got the B3 certificate with just that Camp Chef burner in mind. I have their 8gal kettle, and would like to have it off the ground. I dont want to spend more money on pumps and all to drain right to my carboy. I know there are a ton of options and maybe the Bayou Cl...
