California Brew Masters

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1047041389/california-brew-masters-book-project This is a project I backed because I think it's pretty cool and I like supporting this type of thing. The interviews with some of the top talent in the industry today are worth it to me, and the pictures are just a ...

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

It's probably safest if I don't see that mill because I'll want it and can't get one that costly. :P Thanks though.

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

Cool. I kept looking into it and the Millar seems slightly shady on its claims.

I think I'm going to end up with (in this order as of now):

1) A Crankandstein 2 roller mill
2) A Barley Crusher
3) The cheapest Monster Mill I can find (those are expensive!)

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

Did you end up getting one of these? I'll probably pick up a mill soon and saw these as well.

Re: Mad Alchemist Americana Pale

I believe my strike water for that recipe is 12.5 quarts. I batch sparge (and usually mash out). As far as having farther to go with Irvine water, I'd argue you have a lot less room to work (I build from RO/distilled, so anything I add is all that's in there). If you don't care to read a bunch of ra...

Mad Alchemist Americana Pale

I've refined this recipe over the course of ~5 batches through the years and thought I'd share it. I brewed this on Saturday. Had a few mash issues, but it still ought to turn out tasty as hell (just dryer and more bitter than normal). Hopefully I can bring in some bottles to the April meeting. This...

Oxygen Tank, Regulator, Refills

I'm thinking about upgrading from the old aquarium pump I use for aeration to pure oxygen. Anyone have any recommendations about what to get? Amazon has an interesting possibility . If I do go that route, is there a good place to refill the oxygen tank anywhere in the Laguna Hills area (and if not, ...

Re: Ball Valve in Kettle/Do you have a drill?

Thanks guys! Yeah, I've been brewing with no valve on my kettle for more than 10 years. Maybe it's time I do something about that. Just had a brew day (huzzah)! I actually bought a new 1/2" auto siphon and hated it. The thing was far worse than the 3/8" version I've had for years (but that...

Ball Valve in Kettle/Do you have a drill?

Weird subject, eh? So I'm thinking I might finally mod my kettle to include a ball valve. I've been tired of siphoning wort for a while and just never pulled the trigger. Two questions: 1) Does anyone have any specific recommendations regarding ball valves? I was thinking of getting a weldless setup...

Re: Howdy!

Westwood is one of the studios I used to really want to work for. Command & Conquer was the reason I finally managed to get my hands on a PC. Was sad to see it go. Also, I went ahead and said "screw it" and officially joined the club despite never going to a meeting. What's $20 when I'...

Re: Howdy!

Thanks for the welcome! With regard to the Laguna Hills brewing water, it's much the same as all the surroundings. Very hard with an incredible abundance of sulfates. It's partly why so many beers around are sharply bitter. It is also not suited to the best light or even medium/amber beers. Here's o...

Howdy!

Hey all. I heard about the club through one of your members and came to check it out. I just moved to Laguna Hills a couple weeks ago and I'll be brewing this weekend (assuming my grain shows up on Friday). I actually moved to Irvine in late 2012, but I was in a tiny apartment and couldn't run prope...
