Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

Got to use the Monster Mill MM2-2.0 yesterday and it worked great! My efficiency went way up and it worked very well with the Harbor Freight drill I got. I also picked up two sets of these rubber door stops from Home Depot so I can snug the mill up to my bucket. Worked quite well.

False Bottom Recommendation?

I managed to stretch my stainless braid in my mash tun yesterday so I'm looking at false bottoms. I have a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler and my bulkhead has a 1/2" NPT female fitting on the inside. Any recommendations? Should I just get another screen? Never had the problem, but it did end up int...

Re: Ball Valve in Kettle/Do you have a drill?

Journeyed up to Brewers Hardware today with my brewing assistant (who dropped a deuce after we arrived) and got my kettle upgraded with a valve and pickup tube. Thanks guys!

Re: Mad Alchemist Americana Pale

Bottled this one last night and it's coming along nicely. Lower gravity than I wanted due to the mash complications I was having, but still very tasty and more sessionable.

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

Nope, was out of my budget even via Harbor Freight.

I got this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-i ... xjH3vldXzg

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

That'll be down the line. I also picked up a low speed/high torque drill from Harbor Freight for now.

Re: Miller's B3 Grain Mill

I ended up going with a Monster Mill 2-2.0 (the new 6"x2" rollers with fancy knobs). http://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com/mm-220.html I almost went crazy and bought the 3 roller, but I really couldn't justify the additional cost and don't really see too much of a need. I batch sparge and ...

Re: The Secondary Myth

My completely-untested theory (why I sometimes cold crash before dry hopping for ~1 week) is that with fewer things in suspension, the hop oils have more room to get into the beer, and bacteria has a harder time being a bastard at lower temperatures (although alcohol + pH tends to take care of that ...

Re: The Secondary Myth

There's actually no need to rack to secondary for dry hopping in most cases (trying to find where I heard that, but it was probably from Brew Strong). If you want to harvest from the yeast cake, you might want to transfer first. But, if you have the necessary equipment to dry hop in primary, you can...

Ehehe. I should throw on some suspenders, wear my brew gloves, and walk around with a mash paddle over my shoulder. 6'4" of overweight male with a fairly egregious beard and shaven head. It's like Mr. Clean without all of the positives.

Re: BIAB – My Brew in a Bag Journey

My brother is finally going all-grain, and he's rolling with BIAB due to cost. It is definitely a good option to get your grain wet (get it? not feet, but... grain... ? ...). Certainly cheaper and can yield good beers. I feel like once you start really caring about making the best beer (and being ca...

The Secondary Myth

http://www.madalchemist.com/archives/the-secondary-myth/ Should you rack your beer to a secondary fermentor after primary fermentation is complete? When is it appropriate to rack to secondary? How long can you leave beer in a fermentor on the yeast cake before all hell breaks loose? These questions ...

BIAB – My Brew in a Bag Journey

I'm going to cross-post random stuff I throw up on Mad Alchemist here until someone stops me. This is basically my journey with Brew In a Bag and why I don't do it anymore. http://www.madalchemist.com/archives/biab-my-brew-in-a-bag-journey/ Incredibly Short Version : I brewed in a bag for about a ye...

I might be able to make this since it's during lunch at work. Would be nice to meet some of you guys! If I show up without confirming, I'm large and bearded with a shaven head.
