The Bruery Batch 1000

Can't believe this wasn't already on here. The Bruery is hosting a homebrew competition for our 1,000th batch (and for the 2013 GABF Pro/Am). The winner might also get to brew with me, which is also a fantastic prize!

All the details are here http://www.thebruery.com/batch1000/.

Re: World's Strongest Beer?

I edited my post cause I didn't type the "0" in 20. I was just going off what the guy told me and never really researched it beyond the thought. I appreciate your post. That's interesting. -173°F is the freezing point of alcohol, water is -32° so there's plenty of leeway there. Seems to m...

Re: World's Strongest Beer?

At what point does it cease to be beer? Jack Daniels calls their undistilled liquid "beer" as well, but not after it is concentrated via distillation. It isn't technically distilling, it is just concentrating. In true distillation you remove the methanol from everything else (including ot...

Re: World's Strongest Beer?

Taking Eisbock to the extreme. This has been a competition over the last couple years, with a new "world's strongest beer" coming out every couple months it seems. IMO this sounds disgusting. I know Brewdog used a nearby ice cream factory for both of their record breaking alcohol beers (on...

Yeah, I have the same one. It lasted forever before I had to finally plug it in, and I haven't plugged it in yet since. Works great, no mold.

Re: CO2 fill

Looks like there are enough places already, but I like going to Mobile Industrial Welding Supply in Anaheim. Very close to The Bruery and the prices are good, though I don't remember them off the top of my head.

Re: Kegerator needs regulators

Just use a CO2 manifold. No need to carb and serve at different pressures, unless you are in a hurry. If you do need to carb a keg fast you can shut off gas to the other kegs while you carb the one, and put it back to normal after. Something like this. http://www.kegworks.com/4-way-co2-distribution-...

Re: Unmalted wheat

Unmalted wheat has no diastatic power (no enzymes), so you need to mash it with another malt with a higher DP. 6-Row has great DP and is usually used for stuff like that. In your case, Pilsner has pretty decent enzymatic power, but be sure to use more than 2-3 times as much of the Pils than you do w...

Re: Tustin Brewing Company

Hmm last time I went there they said no more raviolis!! lol that waitress was mean too. Yeah, they have a new chef I guess and he's trying to change things up a bit. At least they'll still make a carne asada pizza even though they took it off the menu. The ravioli of the day was always really good ...

Re: New taco / beer restaurant to open in Costa Mesa

Okay, I'm following Kogi. The weird thing is their web site says Naranja will be at Meat Ave in Orange, and also says Town Center Laguna Niguel... Are there two Naranja trucks? (if we can figure it out, my wife might make a run over there as I'm drinking homebrew :) ) I'll check out Piaggio as well...
