Re: Converting 60 qt cooler for fly sparging

The thing I hate about brewing is all the lost time pondering and researching what equipment to utilize next, instead of just brewing. The 15 gallon pot Brad mentioned would that work effectively for fly sparging if my false bottom is 12in. and the diameter of pot is 15 inches. Thanks for all the re...

Re: Converting 60 qt cooler for fly sparging

I like the way the fly sparge is going so I am just gonna ride it out. I will probably just use some DME until I get some bigger gear. Still might convert a 70 qt cubed cooler and jerry rig something for fly sparging or possibly use suggestions. Either way, I will have an extra cooler , win win .

Re: Converting 60 qt cooler for fly sparging

Yeah, using dme or building a manifold may be the way to go. I have no re-circulation and heating up mash tun, I could just see myself scorching the grains, definitely don't want to take that route at this point in time.

Converting 60 qt cooler for fly sparging

I have seen the mini brew 15 gallon mash tun, but not having handles on the tank would be a problem for me lifting on picnic table. Also, it seems Minibrew may not hold temperature so well. I was wondering if using a false bottom on a 60 qt cube cooler would work for fly sparging. Youtube example at...

wort chiller help on retwisting chiller

My loops on the top half of wort chiller (50ft copper) are really spread out. Is it best to bring closer together while water is being ran through chiller, so it doesn't break the copper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thinking of brewing ten gallons now, so I just need to fix wort chiller.

Re: help asap yeast starter has fruit fly

I think the question was pitch dry yeast now or buy fresh yeast of the desired type tomorrow. I didn't think huntfisher was considering adding the fruit-fly starter. What did you end up doing? I would say it depends on if the safale can ferment the desired beer style. If if can I would pitch the sa...

Re: problem hitting final gravity

I am little worried that my aeration did not add enough air since I only left oxygen on for ten seconds, so when I realized it should of been on longer, then I shook the carboy up a bit. I did use a 1300ml starter, so maybe that added a sufficient amount of air. I am just worried when bottling day c...

problem hitting final gravity

oatmeal stout intended final gravity 1.016 My original gravity was suppose to be 1.064, but ended up with 1.058, and the final gravity is at 1.020 after 14 days. I did gently swirled carboy to see if it will drop some more and adjusted temp to 70 degrees instead of fermenting at 68. If it stays at 1...

Re: Any recommendation for y-starter kolsch all-grain

5 gallon batch preboil 1.046 original gravity 1.052 White labs German Ale/Kolsch wlp029 instructions recommend primary fermentation (14days) at 60 degrees and same for secondary (21 days).. age 4 weeks at 52. I guess I will just follow instructions instead of keeping primary in the mid fifties if it...

Any recommendation for y-starter kolsch all-grain

Some sites recommend that I use one cup of dme to 1300ml of water.I have a 2000ml flask, so I was wondering if this is big enough, the kolsch will be made at lagering temps. Plan on brewing Friday. Also, how long should I aerate wort with one of those throw away oxygen canisters. I had it at full bl...
