Re: All Things GrainFather

My first batch on the GF is currently fermenting away. Nice to dust off the brewing boots, I mean flip flops, again!

Re: Water - benefit and costs of RO

Waste water? 3:1 ratio? It did not occur to me that you would have to put 100 gallons of tap water into the system to get 33 gallons out? Is that what you are saying? Yep. You can soften your water (add salt ions), in order to make it easier to remove the ions? Yep. At least that is what "they...

Re: Water - benefit and costs of RO

3:1 out of the box, and it comes with a 2:1 optional reducer. They recommend not using the 2:1 reducer if your water is hard, but I set it up on mine since I had the softener.

Re: Water - benefit and costs of RO

Also, I've given up on the water calculator spreadsheets. ProMash does a great job calculating the amounts to use, and I had gotten pretty good at estimating the amount of acid to use to drop the mash pH if needed. I add my salts to the mash tun and boil kettle and use all RO for the sparge to keep ...

I ended up putting an inline TDS meter on mine so I can watch for TDS creep. Think it was around $25 for the meter. I also ended ...

Re: 2015 National Homebrew Competition

Cool! Just let me know by tomorrow night, and I'll send you the details. Well, I'm out for Saturday. Just went to bottle and was about 4 ounces short in the 2nd bottle. Fortunately I still have a bunch of the beer, but unfortunately it is all bulk aging so I'll be spending Saturday force carbing an...

Re: 2015 National Homebrew Competition

I am planning to head down on Saturday. If anyone wants to go with or give me your entries, let me know... I am thinking about heading out in the AM to avoid traffic and do lunch down there.. And maybe a brewery stop before heading back up. :) Lexuschris Provided I get mine bottled up today or tomo...
