BJCP 2004 - American Amber Ale

Recipe Notes: Inspired by G'night aka Gordon from Oskar Blues. This is a few ABV lower, but trying to keep it in the same vein. Took lots of inspiration from Brewing Network's clone recipe and notes. I sub'd a few ingredients (e.g. midnight wheat) with stuff I had on hand and thought would go well with this. Splitting batch at secondary for separate dry hop treatments. #1 has 2oz Amarillo pellets & #2 has 2012 Sedona Cascades.
Tasting Notes: 6/24/14 - been in the keg on CO2 for 1 week. Clear brown color, Great fluffy, chunky white head which stands a long while. Aroma is sharp & citrusy with some dank in it. Mouthfeel is full and smooth. It rolls on the tongue. Hops are forward, with grapefruit, floral goodness, and a dank aftertaste. Overall, pretty tasty, albeit unexpected flavors. I think this will mellow well with time. 6/27/14 - compared side-by-side with G'night (Oskaar Blues) and it is a different beer. G'night has more depth, carmel/sugar flavor & minty hops come through. Sharper carbonation, lighter mouth-feel.
