BJCP 2004 - Old Ale

Recipe Notes: Wanted a malty sweet strong ale to use as a base for future herbal beer experiements. This version uses a balanced hop profile to allow the malt sweetness to come through. This recipe is as-brewed, and I originally intended only 1# of honey and 1# of Muscavado.. but they add nice flavor and thin the body a bit. (n.b. my actual OG=1.080, FG=1.011)
Tasting Notes: I brought this to the July '09 BrewCommune club meeting in a giant grolsh bottle. Malty, sweet with toasted biscuit/molasses tones. Thick & smooth mouthfeel. Hop bitterness came out on lighter side of balanced.. it is there, but the sweet/malt is the primary note.
