Reclaiming blow-off

Post by backyard brewer »

This big RIS is really going nuts. It's not the biggest beer I've fermented, but I'm usually not using such an aggressive yeast and the volume is usually closer to 8 gallons (in a 12.2G fermenter). I think I've tossed about 3/4 gallon of blow-off beer.

So it got me thinking, has anyone thought up a way to reclaim the blown-off beer in a sanitary fashion?

I've read about how losing the blow-off is actually supposed to make a smoother beer since blow-off is usually astringent and bitter, but I'm quickly approaching a 10% loss on this batch and this was some of the tastiest wort I've made!
