Aeration with O2

Post by DrDually »

Has anyone used O2 with inline aeration? If so, how much and how long

I was 100% O2 for aeration but not inline. I just use an air stone in my fermenter for about 45 seconds.

I am contemplating an inline setup ... I would want to have a clear piece of tubing where I can see what the stone is putting out into the wort passing by. After that, I would think that the O2 rate would be kind of by gosh and by golly ... probably pretty slow since the wort will have a longer contact time with the O2 (at least for what I'm considering) than the wort column in the fermenter. After that, keeping track of how beers ferment versus the perceived O2 inflow rate (totally subjective on both the front and back ends!) would allow for adjustments. Without expensive equipment to measure dissolved O2, I'm not sure how to dial it in further.

Without a dissovled oxygen meter, it will be trial and error. I doubt that you will be able to over oxygenate, but you obviously want to maximize your oxygen ppm while not wasting O2.

Brewers Hardware makes a nice sightglass that should do the trick for Dan.Image
MoreBeer makes an inline system.
