Keg Polishing

Post by StarRaptor »

JonW, was it you who mentioned on my brewday that you knew a place that might be up for polishing kegs?

I can polish a keg off. Is that what we are talking about? :-)

Yeah, a friend of mine gets a lot of car parts polished at a place and said they would do the kegs, but I haven't taken them in yet to get a quote. Let me send a message to my friend to see if he can get a price without me taking one in.

OK, looks like it should be around $50 per keg.

We're talking about polishing a keg to a chrome finish. A new keg doesn't look like that (and still costs way more than $50).

Would that include the lid too?

I might be interested in getting a few polished. Would have to figure out the logistics but that is doable.

Dan
I would assume so. I've been planning on doing this for a while with my sanke's that I ferment in. Only thing that has kept me from getting it done is that every time I empty the fermenters, I have more beer going in. I'm going to see about borrowing a couple of sanke's so I can send mine out and see how good they do. I'm kegging on Saturday or Sunday, so I'll see about getting them done next week.

edit: OK, I have two sanke fermenters lined up for this Sunday, so I'll send out my other two for polishing next week.

I dropped the kegs off today for polishing. Should get them back some time next week (or weekend). I'll post pics when they're done.

Also, fair warning about the price for doing this - the guy was kind of second guessing himself for the $50 price he had quoted me. If he decides that these are a bear to do, the price going forward may not be the same. I'll find out when I pick them up.

Also, to Dan's Q about the lid - they are most likely not going to do that as it is too tight for them to get their polishers in there.

Let me know how much better your beer tastes after the kegs get polished.

Kinda like clarifying one's homebrew, right? Presentation is a part of the whole gestalt!

I say everyone should buff their cornies.... It just feels good. ;)
